SAN JOSE, CA, April 30, 2014—Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDNS), a leader in global electronic design innovation, and Sonic Emotion, a world leader in 3D sound entertainment, today announced that an optimized port of Sonic Emotion’s Absolute 3D™ sound software is now available on the Cadence® Tensilica® HiFi Audio/Voice digital signal processing (DSP) family. This is the first time Absolute 3D sound software has been ported to a licensable IP DSP core.

Licensing the full suite of MPEG AAC codecs from Fraunhofer IIS for use with the Tensilica HiFi DSP, Cadence Design Systems plans to use the products to enhance the library of over 100 audio/voice software packages optimised for the HiFi DSP family. New standards include the AAC-ELD communication codec, which enables telephone conversations with the highest possible audio quality, and xHE-AAC, which is the latest upgrade to the MPEG AAC family of codecs.
TinyTap, an Israeli start-up that has developed an easy to use platform allowing parents and teachers to design games for kids, is a million dollars richer Thursday, after having been chosen as one of the winners of the Verizon Powerful Answers award. TinyTap was one of three chosen for the million-dollar award, winning the award for best education idea.
